How do I delete my Elsevier account?
Last updated on July 22, 2025Your Elsevier account, the email address that you either use to sign in with or that is linked to your organization, is recognized by a large number of Elsevier products and services. Any personal content or features such as alerts, lists, searches, that you have created and saved in any of those products is linked to your account.
When your account is deleted, you can easily create a new account, but it will not be possible for us to restore previous content.
Follow the steps below to delete the account you use to access any of the products listed under the “Sign In Data” section in your Elsevier account settings page.
Follow these steps if you wish to permanently delete your account:
- Go to your settings (you will need to sign in first) and scroll down to the section: Delete account. Read the information provided under “Sign-in Data” and “Purchases & Subscriptions”. You may have personalised files, alerts, searches… in each of those products and any active subscriptions will be lost after deleting your account.
- Read and agree to the 2 statements by ticking the 2 boxes. You must tick the 2 boxes before proceeding to the next step.

- We will send you an email to your primary email address with a 6 digit code to input in the new code field (shown after confirming the 2 statements above).
- Once the code is entered the “Confirm delete account” button will appear. Click on it.
Important: this is the point of no return. Once you have confirmed you want to delete your account, this cannot be undone

- You will see a screen confirming your account is deleted (or inactive until it can be finally deleted). After closing that screen you will be addressed to the general Elsevier web site, and no longer will be able to sign in with any of your emails attached to the deleted account (linked to your primary email address).
Sometimes deleting your account may take up to 15 days, this depends on the products/services you have signed in with your account.
You will receive one final email at your primary email address once your account is deleted.
If you have ever signed into the Royalty link Elsevier website, this might mean that you have royalties under your account. Therefore, we will not display the “Delete Account” section. We recommend contacting the Royalty link team if you still wish to proceed with your account deletion.
For historical reasons it can happen that you have multiple accounts with the same email address; the old identity platforms were separated, and you may not have noticed that you have registered more than once. If that’s the case, then customer support will be able to delete one or more obsolete accounts for you.
Please note that it is not possible for us to move personal content from one account to the other and, if you have content worth keeping in both accounts, this operation may require some action from you.
If the above does not address your concerns, please visit our privacy policy pages.
