What should I do if my submitted chapter has been returned to me?

Last updated on January 15, 2019

To find out what is required you will need to login to EPS where the message from the technical assessment team or the editor will be visible so you can make the necessary changes. Once you have made the necessary changes to your document, re-upload your chapter and click 'Submit' again so it goes back to the relevant person.

Your submitted chapter could be returned to you because of the following reasons:

  1. The technical assessment team requires further information before sending it through to the editor for review

You will be able to find more information on the content that is required and all the instructions on how to submit these items at your Reference Module website under the instructions tab. Usually the following content is requested:

    • An Abstract
    • A list of key words
    • A change history (if you are providing an update of a previous chapter)
    • Permissions template
    • Figures
  2. The editor has sent some comments and would like you to make some changes to your chapter before it can go any further in the process

In case the editor requires you to make changes to the submitted chapter, you will have received a request email from the system with the subject line 'Action request for Elsevier Reference Modules'. The text of the mail will read the following:

Dear [full name],
