What is the Engineering Research Profile?
Last updated on March 19, 2026
The Engineering Research Profile (ERP) allows you to easily view a dashboard summarizing the research output of engineering schools and research institutions. The ERP uses SciVal's hierarchical structure for institutional organization.
All institutions that appear in the ERP are associated with at least 1,000 Compendex documents.
The metrics and analytic information that are available in the ERP are displayed in the following six tiles on the dashboard:
- Top authors
- Research focus
- Funding sponsorship
- Publishing trend
- Subject area
- Source titles

- Select ‘Search’ at the top of any Engineering Village page.
- Scroll down and select ‘Engineering Research Profile.’ The Engineering Research Profile page opens.

- Select the desired institution’s name from the suggestions. The page refreshes, and the institution name appears at the top, along with the dashboard containing six tiles for the institution.
- Refer to the ‘Set default Engineering institution profile’ section of this FAQ to store your default institution profile (if desired).
Note: You may click the ‘double arrow’ icon to close or open the ‘Institution & groups’ refine results section of the ERP page.
Additionally, you may use one or both of the following two filters located at the top of the page to further restrict your search.
- From the ‘Filter by’: dropdowns, select a beginning and ending publication year. The available years fall within a rolling year range.
- From the ‘Select subject area’ dropdown, choose one of 10 subject areas.
- Click the magnifying glass icon to run the search. The page will refresh and display the filtered results.
Note: The default beginning publication year displayed in the filter will be 10 years before the current year. The default publication year for the ending will be either the current year or the following year. Therefore, the year filter may display a rolling 11- or 12-year range because some documents have a future publication date.
