What are Conference Series? Beta release

Conferences are one of the most important methods for researchers to learn and exchange new ideas and to remain current with the most recent scientific developments.
The Conference Series feature is a centralized place where engineering researchers can discover and explore conference events and the proceedings and papers included in Compendex in an efficient, methodical, and straightforward manner. This new feature improves the discoverability and visibility of new and existing conference events and their content. The initial Beta release of this feature contains a smaller defined set of conference series.
- From the ‘Conference series’ page, you may browse various conference series displayed on the page. You may filter them by their titles or acronyms via the text box at the top of the page or refine your results by different subject areas.
- From the ‘Conference events’ page, you may review various conference events. You may refine your results by different years and countries/territories.
- From the ‘Conference event’ flyout page, you may review 10 conference papers from this specific event. You may click ‘View all records’ from this page to access all conference proceedings and papers in Compendex related to this conference event.
- From the Document results page, you may review all the conference proceedings and papers in Compendex associated with these conference events.
- Click ‘Search.’ The Search dropdown menu opens.
- Scroll down to ‘Conference Series.’
- Click ‘Conference Series.’ The ‘Conference series’ page opens.
The following information is displayed for each Conference series on this page:
- Conference series titles and acronyms
- Conference event titles
- Conference event locations
- Conference publishers
- Link to view all associated conference events
From the ‘Conference series’ page, you may browse various series of conferences. The acronyms (e.g., ACL, CVPR, ICC) for all the conference series are listed alphabetically. By default, the first three conference events (if available) included in each individual conference series are listed in reverse chronological order in an accordion section beneath each conference series title. All the conference events for each conference series can be accessed via a URL link located beneath the last displayed conference event.
- In the text box beneath ‘Filter by title or acronym,’ enter a conference series acronym or title. The ‘Conference series’ page refreshes to display results that match the search criteria.
- To locate a conference series by acronym, you must enter a minimum of one character from the conference series acronym in the text box for results to be displayed.
- For an exact search of conference series by an acronym, enclose it in double quotation marks. Refer to the examples below:
- "ICC"
- "EMNLP"
- To locate a conference series by title, enter a minimum of one letter from one of the words in the title.
- For more precise searches, use multiple letters or entire words from titles.
- You may use partial words such as the following examples to locate conference series titles:
- Use ‘ion’ to find titles that contain the words ‘Association,’ ‘Automation,’ ‘Communications,’ ‘Computational,’ ‘Information,’ ‘International,’ ‘Vision,’ etc.
- Use ‘com’ to find titles that contain the words ‘Communications,’ ‘Computational,’ ‘Computer,’ ‘Computing,’ etc.
- Click a conference series title. The first three conference events from this conference series (as available) open for display.
- Click a series title again to collapse the event display.
- Click a conference event title. The ‘Conference event’ flyout page opens to display information about the most recent 10 conference papers published for this event. From the flyout page you may select either following option:
- Click ‘View all records’ at the bottom right side of the page. A document results list opens that contains all the records associated with the event's conference code.
- Click the browser back button on the Document results page to return to the Conference series page.
- Click the ‘X’ at the top right side of the page to return to the Conference series page.
- Refer to the ‘Conference event information’ section in this FAQ for further information.
- From the Conference series page, click the ‘View all’ link that displays after the last conference event contained in each conference series section to see all the conference events associated to this conference series. The ‘Conference events’ page for that conference series opens.
- The ‘View all’ link contains the total number of conference events that are associated to the conference series, (e.g., ‘View all 144 SIGGRAPH conference events’).
- At the bottom of the page, click ‘Next’ or any number to go to another page.
- Below the Conference series results on the right side of the page, you may click the ‘Display’ dropdown to change the default view of 10 results. The display results options are the following:
- 10 results
- 25 results
- 50 results
- 100 results
You may refine your Conference series results by ‘Subject area.’ This facet appears in the left pane of the Conference series page.
- From the ‘Subject area’ facet, click the checkbox(es) of the items you want to use to refine your search. The facet will display the first five subject areas associated with the greatest number of conference series.
- If desired, click ‘Show all’ to display all the subject areas for the facet. The ‘Subject area’ pop-up window displays all the entries for the facet.
- Search for subject areas by entering at least one or more characters in the ‘Search Subject’ textbox. The subject areas meeting the search criteria are displayed in the pop-up window.
- From the ‘Sort by’ dropdown, you may change to sorting the subject areas in alphabetical order.
- By default, the subject areas are sorted by the ‘Number of results.’
- Subject areas that begin with a capital letter are sorted before subject areas that begin with a lower-case letter.
- Click the checkbox(es) of subject areas you want to use to refine your search.
- If desired, you may clear the checkbox(es) of any items that you no longer want to apply to your Subject area refinement.
- Click ‘Apply’ to add these subject area entries to your refined search or click ‘Cancel’ to return to the Conference series page.
The Conference series page refreshes with the names of the Conference series that matched the subject area criteria.
The ‘Conference events’ page contains various details about each of the conference events associated to a conference series. The following information is displayed on each ‘Conference events’ page:
- Total number of conference events associated to the conference series
- Full name of the conference series
- Year of conference event
- All conference event titles
- Total number of records associated to the conference event
- Location of conference event
- Publisher of the conference event
- From the Conference series page, click the ‘View all conference events’ link located after the last conference event title within any conference series. The Conference event page opens.
- From the ‘Records’ column, click the total number of records for any of the Conference event titles that you would like to review. The ‘Conference event’ flyout page opens.
- From the ‘Conference event’ flyout page, click ‘View all records’ at the bottom right side of the page. A document results list opens that contains all the records associated to the event's conference code.
- Click the browser back button to return to the Conference event page.
- Alternately, you may click the ‘X’ on the top right side of the flyout page to close it.
- At the bottom of the page, click ‘Next’ or any number to go to another page.
- Below the Conference events on the bottom right side of the page, you may click the ‘Display’ dropdown to change the default view of 10 results. The display results options are the following:
- 10 results
- 25 results
- 50 results
- 100 results
- If desired, click ‘Back to search results’ at the top left side of the page to return to the Conference series page.
You may refine your Conference events results by Event country/territory. This facet appears in the left pane of the ‘Conference events’ page.
- From the ‘Event country/territory’ facet, click the checkbox(es) of items you want to use to refine your search.
- If desired, click ‘Show all’ to display all the entries for the facet. The ‘Event country/territory’ pop-up window displays all the entries for the facet.
- Search for event countries/territories by entering one or more characters in the ‘Search Event country/territory’ textbox. The countries/territories meeting the search criteria are displayed.
- From the ‘Sort by’ dropdown, you may change to sorting the event countries/territories areas in alphabetical order.
- By default, the event countries/territories are sorted by the ‘Number of results.’
- Click the checkbox(es) of items you want to use to refine your search.
- If desired, you may clear the checkbox(es) of any items that you no longer want to apply to your Event country/territory refinement.
- Click ‘Apply’ to add these event country/territory entries to your refined search or click ‘Cancel’ to return to the Conference events page.
The ‘Conference events’ page refreshes to display the results of your refinement.
You may refine your Conference events results by Event year. This facet appears in the left pane of the ‘Conference events’ page.
- From the ‘Event year’ facet, click the checkbox(es) of items you want to use to refine your search.
- If desired, click ‘Show all’ to display all the entries for the facet. The 'Event year' pop-up window displays all the entries for the facet.
- By default, the event years are sorted by the ‘Newest date.’
- From the 'Sort by' drop-down, you may change the sort method to sort by ‘Oldest date’ or ‘Number of results.’
- Search for event years by entering the first three numbers of the year in the ‘Search year’ textbox. The event years meeting the search criteria are displayed.
- Click the checkbox(es) of items you want to use to refine your search.
- If desired, you may clear the checkbox(es) of any items that you no longer want to apply to your Event year refinement.
- Click ‘Apply’ to add these event year entries to your refined search or click ‘Cancel’ to return to the Conference events page.
The ‘Conference events’ page refreshes to display the results of your refinement.
Subject area, Event country/territory, and Event year facet notes:
- These facets display the first five results most relevant to your search. You may click ‘Show all’ at the bottom of each facet to see all the entries for that particular facet.
- The number to the right of each facet entry reflects the total number of instances of the item.
- You may click the up or down arrows to open or close the facets during your search session.
