Therapeutic Area-specific Journals data available

Last updated on November 22, 2022

Having an abundance of data can be useful, but in certain contexts it can be useful to eliminate data that might be considered a distraction and to hone into specific areas of interest.

Limiting your data set by journal titles in a particular subject area may come with potential risk. Research can be both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary; articles published in other subject areas may have great relevance to your work and lead to new discoveries.

"We are dealing with huge datasets, having filters we can more simply narrow down to the articles we want to focus on rather than working with the entire database. Saves on hardware resources, time."

Rather than rely on pre-defined subject areas, Elsevier have created therapeutic area subsets based on the content of each article. Customers have the choice for the whole of Life Sciences or specific therapeutic areas.

Articles are included which contain entities (e.g. genes, drugs, disease) related to the therapeutic area in question. For example, if an article mentions “Acyclovir” which is a drug related to treating herpes simplex virus infections, chicken pox and shingles then this article will be included in both Dermatology and Infections/Vaccines Therapeutic areas, regardless of the journal subject area in which it originally appeared. Currently there are 10 Therapeutic areas are available.
