Who can use the Elsevier Research Products APIs?
Last updated on June 13, 2025
Anyone can request an API Key to use Elsevier APIs. Except for Scival and Embase APIs, access at no charge is available to researchers in academic and public-sector institutions, charities and charitable foundations. Free access is only available for non-commercial use, provided that our policies for using APIs and the data are honored. Full API access is only granted to researchers affiliated to organisations that have subscriptions to the corresponding Elsevier product. Depending on the product, clients without subscriptions have access to limited basic metadata for most publications and citation records, as well as to basic search functionality, though individual user licenses may restrict the use of said data. Please check the dedicated product APIs pages for more information.
