What are strong password requirements?
Last updated on November 05, 2024To meet the strong password requirements, your password must:
- Be 8-20 characters
- Contain at least one uppercase alphabetical character, e.g., A, B C, etc.
- Contain at least one lowercase alphabetical character, e.g., a, b, c, etc.
- Contain at least one numeric character, e.g. 0, 1, 2, 3, etc.
- Contain at least one special character such as ~ ! @ # $ ^ * _ { } | : ? ` - = [ ] ; ’ , . /
Do not use:
Exclusion terms are common series of characters, such as: 12345, abcdef, abstract, acceso, access, accesso, account, acesso, admin, amsterdam, asdfgh, biblio, clave, college, consult, contrasena, elsevier, issue, journal, library, nature, password, professor, qwerty, school, science, scopus, student, universi, zxcvbn. Note: The exclusion words and terms also will not be accepted when using both uppercase and lowercase letters, or when spelled backwards. |
- Your username. The username restrictions include:
- Your first or last name.
- Your username spelled forward or backwards.
- A combination of your first and last names.
- An exclusion term. What are exclusion terms?
- An old password used in the last six months.
- Characters in your password that can be misinterpreted as HTML
(e.g., < or >), to avoid being blocked by Cloudflare security settings.
