Preprints with The Lancet is a collaboration between The Lancet and SSRN. Preprints with The Lancet is part of SSRN's First Look, a place where journals and other research experts identify content of interest prior to publication. These preprint papers are not peer-reviewed.

I submitted my paper to a Lancet journal. Why is my paper now posted on SSRN?
At submission stage to all Lancet journals, authors are asked whether they would like their paper to be posted to a dedicated area of SSRN called Preprints with The Lancet. If the corresponding author confirms that all authors agree and opts in, your paper will be eligible to appear on the SSRN website.
To be eligible for posting on SSRN, it is necessary to include all the required information (ethics approval, declaration of interests, funding statement, and prospective registration for randomized controlled trials). If the required information was not answered and/or included in the full-text PDF, SSRN will give you the opportunity to update your submission with this information.
SSRN asked for additional information. What happens if I do not provide it?
To be eligible for posting on SSRN, it is necessary to include all the required information (ethics approval, declaration of interests, funding statement, and prospective registration for randomized controlled trials). Your paper will be removed from Preprints with The Lancet until this information has been provided.
For most academic journals, posting preprints on SSRN is not considered prior publication. However, some journals may have a different view, so we recommend authors review publishers’ policies regarding posted preprints.

Reach out to SSRN Support using the chat below to have your Lancet preprint removed. Provide SSRN with the abstract ID and the title of your paper. We will remove the submission on your behalf at your request.

No, they are not. Papers available via SSRN should not be considered published or necessarily under review with the Lancet family of journals.
