How do I search for authors using ORCID?

Author search also has the option to search based on an Open Researcher and Contributor ID, or an ORCID. An ORCID is a 16-digit number and is used by editors, funding agencies, publishers, and institutions to reliably identify individuals in the same way that ISBNs and DOIs identify books and articles.

Follow these steps to search for an author using ORCID:

1. In the text entry field next to the ORCID icon, enter an ORCID.
   An ORCID must be entered as a 16 digit number (hyphens are not counted). For example, 0000000000000000.
2. Click the magnifying glass to search.

After completing these steps, your author search results opens.

Note: It is currently not possible to search multiple ORCIDs at one time.

Additional information

Conducting a search using an author's first name, last name, and affiliation as search criteria is mutually exclusive to conducting a search with ORCID. All other fields will be cleared and will not be used when you click the search button next to the ORCID text box.

If you enter an author's first name, last name, and affiliation, in addition to entering an ORCID and then click the ORCID's search button, only ORCID will be used for the search even though you entered information in the other author search fields.
