Accessibility features of PharmaPendium
PharmaPendium includes accessibility features designed to support users of assistive technologies and improve overall usability. Based on the PharmaPendium accessibility roadmap, the following features are available in the product:
- Meaningful non-text content includes text alternatives so that it can be understood by users of assistive technologies.
- Programmatic headings are generally used appropriately throughout the product to support navigation and page structure for assistive technologies.
- Most pages feature a “skip to main content” link as the first focusable element on the page, allowing keyboard and screen reader users to bypass repeated navigation.
- Information is not communicated by color alone, helping users understand content without relying only on visual color cues.
- Text has high levels of contrast with its background in most areas.
- Text can be resized to 200% of its original size without loss of content or operability.
- Pages include descriptive titles to help users understand where they are in the product.
- Users have multiple ways to locate pages and content within the product.
- Content is presented in a meaningful sequence so that it can be interpreted correctly by assistive technologies.
- Functionality is fully keyboard operable on most pages, and there are no keyboard traps.
- Interactive elements have a visible focus indicator.
- Content that appears on hover or focus can be accessed and dismissed in a predictable way.
- Prerecorded media includes accessibility support such as captions and audio description, where applicable.
- Non-text user interface components and graphical objects provide sufficient contrast.
- Errors are communicated in text, with helpful suggestions provided to help users correct mistakes.
Known accessibility limitations
Embedded PDF viewer. PharmaPendium uses a third-party embedded PDF viewer, PDF.js. Some advanced interactions in the viewer, such as annotation or drawing tools, may not be fully operable for keyboard-only or screen reader users.
Workaround: PDFs can be downloaded and opened in the user's preferred PDF reader or assistive technology environment.
Reflow. PharmaPendium does not yet fully support reflow. The product has a minimum viewport width of 1100 pixels. When the browser window is narrower than 1100 pixels, horizontal scrolling is required to access content.
Planned work: We are working on redesigning the UI to fully support reflow and are aiming to complete the implementation by the end of 2026.
Ongoing improvements
We are actively remediating known accessibility issues in PharmaPendium. There are also some legacy pages, that are being migrated to new technology stack in 2026 – 2027, the accessibility issues on these pages will be resolved as part of this migration. For more information about planned accessibility improvements, please refer to the PharmaPendium accessibility roadmap: [Roadmap link].
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
