Web Accessibility and Usability Features
Osmosis offers features that benefit everyone, including full-text search, browse and filter by content type or specialty, and bookmark-friendly content. Osmosis features a simple, flexible, and consistent user interface design. We provide content in a number of different modalities, including videos, online quizzing, text-based AI learning, and notes in PDF format.
Video
Osmosis is a video-first platform, meaning most of our content is presented as educational videos with accompanying audio, closed captions (cc), and transcripts in English. Spanish language options are available for some products. To increase the size of our transcripts, learners may increase the zoom through their browser.
Learners can pause, play, jump forward/backwards, turn on/off captions, expand to full-screen, and increase/decrease the playback screen through mouse or keyboard controls (listed below). We also offer Picture- in-picture to enable learners to watch while following the content in the transcript below.
Audio
The audio for our videos is adjustable with controls to speed up or slow down the playback speed.
Notes
Along with videos, we also offer additional content as “Notes”. Paid subscribers can download and print these Notes for offline viewing. Learners may also zoom in and out directly in the Notes viewer as desired. Notes available on Osmosis.org are downloadable as pdfs. These notes are available as downloadable tagged PFDs and are primarily text-based. They also contain images and illustrations supported by alt-text descriptions.
Interface
The Osmosis website features a responsive design and supports various screen sizes. Additionally, we offer alternative ways of interacting with our app.
Screen readers
Content on Osmosis is largely programmatically determinable, supporting the use of screen readers and other assistive technologies. Many content sections feature meaningful semantic structure and appropriate labels for forms and controls.
Details on these issues and on the usability of assistive technology are made available in the VPAT.
Questions and assessments
Learners can complete questions and flashcards using keyboard controls alone, and may customize or toggle off the quiz shortcut keys listed below.
Images that appear in questions, answer options, and explanations are supported by alt-text descriptions. Where the image is itself the subject of the assessment descriptions are written to convey the clinically relevant detail without revealing the answer.
Keyboard controls
Learners can use the following keyword shortcuts to interact with the web video player when it’s in focus and may also customize or toggle on/off the shortcut keys for Quizzes.
For highlighting quiz text: after focusing the text, use shift and left or right arrows to select, and press H to highlight.
