How do I use tables in Knovel?
Last updated on July 16, 2025
Knovel has a large database of tables, and the tools to make it easy for you to analyze these tables to find exactly what you need. For more information also view our video tutorial on interactive tools.
The following tools are available in the table view from the top down and from left to right:
Can be used as a navigation tool. To go back to your previous results, click the step you would like to go back to.
Search (‘Filter the Table’) field
Enter your search term here to search within the entire table. To cancel the current search and view the entire table, click ‘x’ to the right of your search term(s).
Show/hide the table’s ‘Table of Contents’.
Save the table (including any modifications/filtering/sorting) to ‘My Knovel’.
View ‘Table Notes’ which includes by column header a description of the column.
Export the table (including any modifications/filtering/sorting) to PDF, Microsoft Excel or Comma Separated Value (CSV). There is a limit of 50 rows per export in an interactive table selection. This limitation is due to publisher agreements.
Access the Knovel Unit Converter.
Shows the total number of rows and pages and lets you browse between pages.
Click the down arrow next to the column heading to see the different options available per column:
- Sort Ascending / Descending: Sort the column in ascending/descending order.
- Lock/Unlock: Toggle between locking/unlocking the selected column to the far left (similar to freezing a column in a spreadsheet).
- Columns: Show/hide desired columns.
- Toggle Empty: Hides the entire row if the selected column is empty.
Filters: Enter a numeric value or check the box in front of a specific text value to filter your search results.
- A numeric column: filter on less than (<), greater than (>) or equal to (=).
- A text column: filter by specific text.
