How do I submit my contribution to EMSS via the submission wizard?

Last updated on December 22, 2020

Before you can submit your contribution via the single-page EMSS Submission Wizard, you should:

  • Have all your content files available for upload.
  • Have contact information for any co-authors available.
  • Be ready to submit to the next step.

If you do not have all files and just want to upload a few and return later, you can submit your chapter the traditional way.

Please note that once you have submitted your contribution, you can no longer change, add or delete the manuscript, figures and/or art, though you may be able to Recall Your Submission.

How

If you have everything ready, follow these steps to submit your contribution to EMSS:

  1. Select the project you are working on from the drop-down menu on your 'Welcome' screen.
  2. Click 'Go'.
  3. Click on the appropriate manuscript title in your 'To-Do' list on the 'Home' screen.
  4. When the 'Submission Wizard' popup appears, select 'Yes, Proceed to Submission'.
  5. If you have co-authors not listed under 'CONTRIBUTING AUTHORS', click the 'Add Another Author' link for each additional author and enter their name(s) and email address(es).
  6. If any are listed, enter responses to each query under 'AUTHOR SUBMISSION QUESTIONS'.
  7. Go to 'UPLOADING FILES' section and browse to select (or drag and drop) ALL of your content files.
    • EMSS will assign each file a 'Content Type' based on the file type. You will need to correct any default selections that are incorrect.
    • If multiple Word docs are included, you must designate ONLY ONE as the manuscript file.
    • Label each Figure file with its figure number (only the numeral is needed, though you can add a letter too, e.g., 3a).
    • Label each Other Content file with its file type and label ('Table 1', 'Video 3', etc.).
    • Use 'x' button on right to remove any files you don’t want to upload.
  8. When all sections are complete, click 'Save and Submit' button at the bottom.

After completing these steps:

  • Your co-authors entered with EMSS accounts are automatically assigned to the chapter.
  • Co-authors entered without existing EMSS accounts are included in a notification to the Elsevier DE to have accounts created.
  • Your files are uploaded to the appropriate EMSS tabs based on the Content Type selected.
  • Your contribution is now at the next step in the workflow.
  • You cannot change, add or delete the manuscript and/or artwork, though you may be able to recall your chapter.
  • You can still post notes on the 'MANUSCRIPT' tab, the 'FIGURES' tab, or the ‘OTHER CONTENT’ tab.
