What is the difference between 'sign in' and 'check access'?

As you use various Elsevier products and services you may see buttons which will let you sign in or check access.

These buttons do different things.

'Check Access', 'Get Access' or 'Access through your organization' are designed to verify whether you can access paid content via your organization. Whenever your organization is subscribed to content within a product, we can provide you access to that content as long as you can prove your affiliation with the organization. We don’t necessarily need to know other personal details about you.

However, you will need to sign in with your email address and password, to access your personal account or information, like saved searches and references.

An example of accessing through your organization is when you are redirected to sign in via SAML SSO on your university or organization’s website.
