What can I do if the system says my email is already in use?
Last updated on March 19, 2026
You may get the following message when trying to add a new email to your own or another author's account:
Email address [insert email] can not be added to the system!
This email is already being used.
If you are seeing this error message when attempting to create an account on SSRN this message indicates that your email is already associated with an account. Try logging into your account. If you do not remember your password you can send a password reset link to your email. Check your spam/junk folder within your email system to ensure that the password reset did not fall into the wrong folder. If after checking spam/junk you did not receive the reset password link or you receive the message that your account has been blocked due to too many wrong attempts at logging in please contact SSRN Support.
If you see this error message when attempting to add an email address to your own account, check that the email is not already added to your account by logging in and clicking on 'My Account'. You can view all email addresses on your account by clicking on 'Change my email addresses' then the 'Edit/Add Email(s)' button.
If the email is not there, you may have a duplicate account. If you need further assistance, contact us using one of the options at the bottom of this page and we'll gladly assist. Provide as much distinguishing information as possible that could be associated with other SSRN accounts, all possible names that could have been associated with your account(s) and any emails that you might have used in the past. Please also include affiliations you might have had or currently hold.
If you see the error message when attempting to create an account for a co-author during the time of submission, they most likely already have an SSRN account. If you are unable to find their existing account and need to add them to a submission or update their information, contact SSRN Support using one of the options at the bottom of this page and we'll gladly assist you in getting your co-author added to the submission. When contacting us on behalf of a co-author, please provide support with your co-authors full name, email, and affiliation, so we can make sure their accounts are updated with all their current information.
