What is the CiteScore corrections process?
Last updated on August 15, 2024
The CiteScore correction process must occur by the end of February for the year of CiteScore release or within six weeks after the yearly CiteScore release. The CiteScore metric values are released in June every year and only most recent annual value of CiteScore can be re-calculated. Historical values and past CiteScore values cannot be re-calculated.
Requests for corrections are submitted by publishers.
Correction requests before the annual CiteScore release
The annual CiteScore metrics are released in June of each year. Feedback about journal subject area, publisher name, ISSN, and document count (denominator) is due by the end of February.
Upon request, we will provide the last four months of CiteScore Tracker metrics and the last 2 years of CiteScore annual values, including the years’ document counts. This information provides an indication as to whether it needs correcting before the annual calculation. As an example, for CiteScore 2016, around 90% of the document counts recording in February were identical to the numbers recorded in the final June metrics. This means that the denominator values available with the February CiteScore Tracker metrics should be very close, if not identical to the final figure for the annual calculation.
Ideally, these changes are made before the annual release:
- Publisher name
- Subject classification (ASJC)
- Denominator (unless there is a difference between February and June)
Correction requests after the annual CiteScore release
You have six weeks to provide any feedback if you believe the current year CiteScore metrics are incorrect. Note that you can only provide feedback on the current CiteScore year, and this feedback is preferably sent by one contact per publisher.
For citation feedback, the citing documents must have been in Scopus before the June CiteScore release.
- Open a web form from the Scopus: Profile and content corrections Support Center.
- Select the 'Publisher' radio button.
- From the Contact reason dropdown, select 'CiteScore Correction'.
- Populate the required fields.
- Download the CiteScore correction request spreadsheet.
- Populate the CiteScore correction request spreadsheet, then save the file.
- Select 'Choose file' to locate and upload your CiteScore correction request spreadsheet as an attachment.
- Populate the remaining fields of the web form and select 'Send your question'.
A progress tracking number is sent to the supplied email address.
Some types of feedback can be implemented in a few weeks, such as removing erroneous records. Some feedback may take a few months to implement, such as sourcing and indexing new content from a publisher.
Processes are in place to maximize the chance of feedback being processed in time for the next CiteScore calculation. Note that correcting content that is already indexed in Scopus is usually faster than adding new content.
