What is the TLS security technology?

Transport Layer Security (TLS) is a cryptographic protocol designed to provide privacy and data integrity between two communicating computer applications, and the successor of SSL (Secure Socket Layer). The protocol is used in applications such as email and instant messaging and provides the secure connection on sites starting with HTTPS.

As part of a global effort to improve security and privacy for customers across our products, Elsevier has implemented TLS v1.3 on ScienceDirect.

Most modern browsers support TLS v1.3. To avoid any issues, update your browser to the most recent version.
