Getting started on Admin Tool
Last updated on November 01, 2018
The Admin Tool is an easy to use, configuration tool and provides view and edit privileges for Administrators maintaining ScienceDirect and/or Scopus Account settings for an institution.
Navigating Admin Tool
Based upon your institution's subscription status, the Admin Tool is separated into three tabs: the General tab, the ScienceDirect tab, and the Scopus tab. Click on an Admin Tool tab to use or view common ScienceDirect or Scopus functions.
When you open the Admin Tool, the application will display according to your Administrator level. As you move between the Consortium, Account, and Group levels, the navigation path for each appears at the top of the Admin Tool. To return to a previous level, click the link in the browse path.
Admin Tool Administrator types
The Admin Tool has three types of Administrator privileges. They are:
Consortium Administrator |
An end user with permissions to set up and maintain Admin Tool access and allowances at the Consortium level and below within the institution. |
Account Administrator |
An end user with permissions to set up and maintain Admin Tool access and allowances at the Account level and below within the institution. |
Group Administrator |
An end user with permissions to set up and maintain Admin Tool access and allowances at the Group level within the institution. |
An Administrator's privileges are based upon the following Admin Tool guidelines:
- An Administrator may edit only Administrator information that is at their level or below.
- An Administrator may only view information about an Administrator who has a higher level of Admin Tool access.
- Account Administrators may not view Administrator information of other Accounts.
- Consortium Administrators may view/edit Account level Administrator information for Accounts in the Consortium.
- Account Administrators may view/edit Group level Administrator information for Groups in the Account.
- Group Administrators may only view Account level Administrator information.
Admin Tool Account Groups
The Account General Information page provides a list of Groups associated with the Account. To access information about a Group, click a Group name in the list.
Note: If the Account has a Group with expired membership dates, the Group’s name will display with an exclamation point (!) beside the title. You can edit these groups using the ‘Edit Groups with Expired Membership Dates’ link.
