Admin Tool is retiring on 31 December 2026 — what you need to know
Last updated on October 08, 2026
Elsevier is retiring the legacy Admin Tool on 31 December 2026. From January 2027, Admin Tool will no longer be accessible. Its replacement, Admin Console, is available today and already provides the capabilities you use in Admin Tool — plus many it never had.
Key dates
Date | What happens |
|---|---|
Today | Admin Console is live — you can start using it now |
31 December 2026 | Admin Tool retires |
January 2027 | Admin Tool can no longer be accessed |
Admin Console is Elsevier’s administration platform for institutional administrators — a single entry point to manage your organization’s products and subscriptions, users and administrators, access settings (IP ranges, email domains, SSO), usage reporting, and activity history, across a much wider range of Elsevier products than Admin Tool supported.
No. Your products, entitlements, user access, and contract terms are unchanged. Only the administration interface is changing, and Admin Console is included with your existing subscriptions at no additional cost.
Existing Admin Tool users will be recognized automatically with existing Elsevier credentials and use it to login to Admin Console.
- Sign in to Admin Console at adminconsole.elsevier.com with your existing Elsevier credentials.
- Verify your organization’s details — user and administrator lists, IP ranges, and access settings.
- Get familiar with the new navigation — see the Admin Console guide or the recorded webinar (links: mid Sep).
- Report anything missing or incorrect via Contact Support or your Customer Success Manager — ideally well before 31 December, while both systems are available.
See “Where did my Admin Tool features go in Admin Console?” (Article 3) for a full mapping. In short: usage reports, IP management, organization and user details, entitlements, and registration invitations are all available in Admin Console today — most with improved functionality such as user search, bulk invitations, and an activity log.
Link resolver management will not be part of Admin Console. Link Resolver management has low usage in Admin Tool with minimal visits and low occurrences. When Admin Console is launched and Admin Tool is retired, customer admins will be able to request link resolver management settings via the email support from Admin Console support centre.
Customer feedback will be gathered around this topic, and thereby prioritised as per the updated needs and built(if needed).
Your users’ access to Elsevier products is not affected. However, from January 2027 all administration — managing IP ranges, users, invitations, and reports — can only be done in Admin Console, so we strongly recommend signing in before the retirement date.
Yes, all the Admin Tool data will be migrated to Admin Console.
